Nikki’s dog’s behaviour has changed since being castrated. He is now extremely moody and aggressive. Can anything be done?

Question

Hi Glynne,

Thanks for the fantastic service you offer.

I have a nine-year-old male Yorkie, Wylie, who was neutered over a year ago. He used to be an extremely pleasant, happy dog and for the first couple of years I had never even heard him bark! He has however recently become extremely racist (which can be rather embarrassing), is increasingly aggressive, barks non-stop and has become extremely temperamental and moody. He’s also started peeing in the house, something which he would never previously do. Are these manifestations just age-related or is there something I can do?

Your insight would be really appreciated!

Hi Nicki
Why on earth did you castrate an old dog?!
In my opinion you were very badly advised and I certainly don’t think the symptoms you describe are a “manifestation” of advanced years! I think your dog’s change in behaviour is directly related to his operation!
The sad part is I am afraid the damage is done.
So sorry for all of you.
Kind regards
Glynne
