Here is a question and answer about introducing dogs to one another. In this case, John is combining two households and is concerned about how his pets will get along with the newcomers.Â
Question
I will shortly be combining two households and will be introducing a number of dogs to one another. I have an 11yr old Weimaraner spayed and a 6 yr old neutered male. Obviously the bitch is Alpha however the other household has two 4 month old Golden Retreivers. Any suggestions or words of caution? Do I introduce them on neutral ground not that it matters to the little ones? Any tips would be welcome. Thanks
Hi John
You do not say whether the adult dogs are socialized. If not, place puppies in a safe wire pen, one at a time and let adult dogs (one at a time) sniff the pups, and watch for any aggression. They might be fine … or they might never accept puppies.
The risk is the dogs of the same sex which may take exception to each other. You do not mention the pups gender, so I am assuming they are a boy and a girl.
Assuming the adults are well socialized and friendly, don’t throw them all together. Do introduce one at a time. Adult dogs one at a time get to meet pups one at a time.
A park would be a good place to try.
Take care and good luck

I have two cocker spaniels rescued. One is female and one is male. They appear to have been together when they were rescued. I haven’t socialized them with other dogs. The female was about three years old and the male about five when I got them.
I’m about to introduce them to my daughter’s adopted dog who has some rodian(?) ridgeback in her. She is about four and my daughter has only had her about six months.
Please tell me how to proceed. They are all going to be together in a car with my daughter’s dog free and my two cockers in a crate.
Thank you.
