Emily’s Labrador dog has a very bad habit - destroying her bedroom when left unattended. Whats causing this? How can it be fixed?

Question

Hi Glynne

I have a one year old Labrador which lives with me in the bedroom and generally sleeps on the bottom of the bed, she has been left in the room unattended before, but has started to chew objects (CDs and discs) and totally destroys the bedroom when I leave. The other night she chewed things when I was asleep and in the room with her. Any suggestions please. I’m 15 and live with mum and dad Many thanks

Hi Emily
Dogs chew because they are frustrated and can’t sleep. And dogs can’t sleep because their tummies are empty and Mother Nature is telling them to, “Hunt and eat now because you won’t have the energy when you wake up!”
And because you don’t have rabbits and wild game in your bedroom, the CD’s get chomped. Get it? In order to stop your dog from destroying your room, feed her more often, more food and more raw bones, or not only will you be minus a couple of CD’s, but also blankets, sheets, books and any other thing that’s not tied down in your room …as well as sleepless!
Sweet dreams
Glynne
