Amanda’s tom cat has started urinating in the bath. Glynne advises changing the litter box location, as well as checking for a medical problem.

Question

Hi Glynne
I got a question regarding my tom cat who suddenly started by urinating in the bath. This started after he was a bit under the weather and refused to use the litter tray set out for him. Now he keeps on doing this and I just want to know what I can do to make him stop. This also only happens in the early mornings and it’s as if he then refuses to go outside and will hold it until he can do it in the bath. Please help.
Regards
Amanda

Hi Amanda
You’ve got one crafty cat there. You see the hole’s already dug for him in the bath so he doesn’t have to do the manual ‘dig and cover’ thing when urinating.
However, please check for blood in his urine because he could well have an infection, as this is a favourite way for cats to convey a medical problem to their owners. If this is the case, a trip to the vet will sort the problem.
Do place his litter box in the bathroom and do use his favourite litter or even garden soil as most cats are very fussy to what they scratch in!
Good luck
Glynne
