My 14 year old dog Buddy has started digging or scratching at the floor at night. He will do it all night long and sleeps during the day. What can we do.

Need some rest

<blockquote><em><strong>Hi there</strong>
It’s because he can’t sleep on an empty tummy! Try feeding him a couple of times in the afternoon and evening and an hour before you go to bed.

If your dog sleeps outside and is barking during night time, you can opt for bringing them inside where they will be safe from poisoning and it is quite easy to teach them to not mess the house.

If the barking is during the day - you will have to find out why and thereafter react on the problem. There could be a lot of reasons for barking, like boredom, separation anxiety, getting cold, copying the other dogs in neighborhood, alone, something irritating them, dog closed up (for instance in a garage), etc.

If the problem is something that (you think) you can do nothing about contact a behaviorist or in some cases a ttouch practitioner will be able to help.

I have 7 dogs, 6 of which are not barkers. My neighbours have actually said that when they bark they have a look to see because it is for a reason. I now have a standard French Poodle who I got when he was 3 months old. He turns one year next week and he is a bit of a barker, drives me mad. Am hoping that he will grow out of it as he gets older. Barks when dogs/people are out in the street, when I get visitors he follows them inside and just barks at them. Eventually I have to put him outside. He does sleep inside. So here's holding thumbs that he stops soon.

What if the dog is barking during the day when you're at work? You don't know if your dog is barking/the neighbour denies their dogs are barking, but you're at home and hear it bark all day long. I had a neighbour deny his dogs barked at all! Luckily they have moved, but now i have a pooch and although i know he doesn't bark much, he does bark if someone walks down the street - i can't help that.
