My mail box is always full of complaints about barking dogs from neighbours…. on both sides of the fence. And I can understand why folks get so hot under their collars, because incessant barking often  results  in sleep deprivation which can lead to all sorts of medical problems like high blood pressure, heart attacks and  nervous breakdowns …which in turn lead to job loses, poverty and  starvation. Also synonymous with unyielding yapping is rage - sometimes with terminal results at the end of a barrel as sadly occurred awhile back. So barking dogs are not only a menace, but threatening our very lives as well.
Now, there is good news if you are a long suffering victim because the problem is curable …  but only if the dogs’ master really wants help? That is the question!

Question

I am sick to death of all my neighbours’ complaints about my dogs barking all night. I personally haven’t heard them once.
These people have a petition and want me to get rid of my best friends or they say they will have them confiscated. I don’t know what to do, please help.

You know denial is not a river in Egypt. Trust me, your neighbours are Sleepless in Forrest Hills because your dogs are barking! And it’s clear they sleep outside on the far side of your house or you most certainly would have heard them.
You see, dogs bark for many different reasons and I’m guessing in your case it’s because they are hungry, cold and feeling rejected.
The solution is easy - have them inside with you at night. Problem solved!
Also, give them warm baskets and a hearty meal before their bed time which will mellow them out for the night … and before you’ll be able to say  ‘Jack Russel’ your neighbours turn friendly again.
Oh you say, what if they poo in the house? Easy, just clean it up in the morning.

Question

I’ve got a really good tip for people whose neighbours dogs bark but I want to remain anonymous.
Our neighbour has 5 German Shepherds which bark incessantly both day and night so we have rigged up a siren on a tree outside his bedroom window. Now every time his dogs bark, we give him a bit of his own medicine.
Letter Shortened.Hillcrest.

What a coincidence! My neighbour has 5 German Shepherds which only bark to alert the rest of our dogs to danger. This team of canine crime busters  are a wonderful asset, as home invasions are unheard of in our road.
My only complaint is some twit insists on activating a siren which is keeping me awake at night! So it’s you hey? Well if it wasn’t for that ‘For Sale’ sign on your verge, you might have had the pleasure of meeting me. Holding thumbs for a very quick sale.

Till next time, love ‘em, spoil ‘em and have lots of fun

What if the dog is barking during the day when you’re at work? You don’t know if your dog is barking/the neighbour denies their dogs are barking, but you’re at home and hear it bark all day long. I had a neighbour deny his dogs barked at all! Luckily they have moved, but now i have a pooch and although i know he doesn’t bark much, he does bark if someone walks down the street - i can’t help that.

I have 7 dogs, 6 of which are not barkers. My neighbours have actually said that when they bark they have a look to see because it is for a reason. I now have a standard French Poodle who I got when he was 3 months old. He turns one year next week and he is a bit of a barker, drives me mad. Am hoping that he will grow out of it as he gets older. Barks when dogs/people are out in the street, when I get visitors he follows them inside and just barks at them. Eventually I have to put him outside. He does sleep inside. So here’s holding thumbs that he stops soon.

If your dog sleeps outside and is barking during night time, you can opt for bringing them inside where they will be safe from poisoning and it is quite easy to teach them to not mess the house.

If the barking is during the day - you will have to find out why and thereafter react on the problem. There could be a lot of reasons for barking, like boredom, separation anxiety, getting cold, copying the other dogs in neighborhood, alone, something irritating them, dog closed up (for instance in a garage), etc.

If the problem is something that (you think) you can do nothing about contact a behaviorist or in some cases a ttouch practitioner will be able to help.

My 14 year old dog Buddy has started digging or scratching at the floor at night. He will do it all night long and sleeps during the day. What can we do.

    Need some rest

    Hi there
It’s because he can’t sleep on an empty tummy! Try feeding him a couple of times in the afternoon and evening and an hour before you go to bed.
