Salome adopted a cat and a dog whose owners were emigrating. The cat keeps eating too much and then bringing up her food. What is causing this?

Question:

Hi Glynne
I adopted a female cat and doggy (not sure how old they are, but older than 5 years) from people who relocated to the US for good. The doggy has adapted with ease, but the cat has a bad habit of overeating and then bringing up her food - hardly chewed. They were fed Hills previously, but that doesn’t quite fit my budget for 2 dogs and 2 cats here. What would be the reason for her constant unsatisfied appetite?

Hi Salome
Some of these foods leave a lot to be desired and cause cats to bring up. They are laced with artificial flavourings which attract the appetite, but the contents are more than the poor kitty’s digestion system can deal with!
Please keep trying out different labels until you find one that agrees with your cat. The less the number of ingredients and the purer the contents, the better.
Take care
Glynne

surely it is because the cat is eating too quickly then gulping water down…my tom does the same but fortunately only about once a week…over the duvet!!

    Hi Me
Could be, but more likely to be the diet. Throwing up is not normal and suggests a problem. Experiment with different foods, dry, wet and natural and if the vomiting continues consult a vet.
