This Q&A deals with a naughty dog who keeps ripping his owner’s newspaper to shreds. Scolding doesn’t help, so what will?

Question:

Hi Glynne,
Temba is my three year old German Shepherd. He is so well behaved and adorable except he has got into the habit of ripping my newspaper delivered to shreds.
I’ve scolded him and he looks very sorry but does it again.
What can I do to stop him apart from getting annoyed and smacking him.
Thank you for a very interesting and informative newsletter.

Hi Peter
Thank you for your kind comments.
Well how has scolding worked for you with regards to stopping her ripping it up?!
German Shepherd dogs are highly intelligent animals and I guess Temba is trying to spare you the bad news which fills our papers nowadays … I own GSD’s, the cleverest dogs in the world.
I think your best bet is to either get to the newspaper first or erect a post box where Temba can’t get to read it before you.
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!
Glynne

One Response to “Q&A - My dog keeps ripping the newspaper”

I have a lab x border collie also three years old, who fetches the paper every morning when it comes flying over the gate. Sometimes she brings it to her kennel which is right outside my bedroom, but often she leaves it somewhere on the way. As soon as the first one in the house gets up, they tell her to Fetch the paper and she takes great joy in doing so, but it no-one asks for it she rips it.
