Tania is wondering whether or not she should adopt another dog as a companion for her Rottweiller.

Question:

Hi there,
I need your advice, I have been trying to decide what to do with regards to my Rotty. She is a 4 year old little girl, Chevy. Her brother unfortunately passed away last year March (he was 13 and at wits end). I have been considering whether or not to get a new addition to our family. We have a 2 year old, who takes up a lot of our time and we try to spend time with Chevy once he has been sorted out. I already feel guilty that some nights after seeing to our 2 year old, we just kind of ‘conk out’! I think that Chevy is lonely, however I don’t know if we should get a dog just to keep her company (as we should be spending more time with her, as it is, now there will be TWO of them!) Please help me, I don’t think getting a puppy is the best thing, maybe adopt another dog. Please help!

Regards,
Tania

Hi Tania

My advice is simple. Chevy should be part of your family and with you whether you are indoors or not.
Getting her another dog as a friend may not solve your problem; in fact it would probably exacerbate the situation.
If a dog had two wishes they would be:
1. To have a full tummy and be able to sleep away the long, boring hours and a nice, raw, juicy bone between zzz’s.
2. To be with the family – whether they are receiving attention or not.
Good luck
