Annie is curious as to why her kitten wakes her up every morning by licking her. What is the reason for this behaviour?

I have a kitten of about 3months old, she is very happy no problems, however early in the mornings while I’m still asleep she actually tries to find any part of my body to lick on, which is very annoying. Why would she want to do this??? Please help. As I said we give her alot of attention and she is very happy.

I get a similar wake up call at 5am every morning from two of my German Shepherds licking me! I think they have figured out they’re ‘watchdogs’ … only joking!
Seriously now, animals can tell the time and in summer when it’s light I do get up at 5am to jog. But now a days with Winter approaching, and no matter how dark it is – I get an involuntary face licking on the dot of 5 am, come rain, snow or tsunami!

Now back to your ‘startling’ little problem. Without knowing more details, I guess your kitten is attention seeking earlier than you see fit, or perhaps comfort seeking, or perhaps she is just waking you up to make her breakfast?!
Why not try leaving a saucer of milk and some of her food out for her before you go to bed. If she continues to wake you up, you’ll know it’s neither of the above and then you should make arrangements for her sleep elsewhere, or convey your annoyance in a way she so gets the message.
