Ronelle is worried about her underweight cat who, although he eats quite a bit, still looks like a stray.
 Question:
I have a 2-year-old tom cat who, as you can imagine, has a personality ofhis own. My concern stems from his weight. I am one of the people who does not stick to strict meal times and thus he has access to his food all the time. He also does hunt but usually doesn’t eat his catch. Unfortunately he looks underweight. He will only eat dry cat food and only a certain variant, he refuses tin tinned food or any other softer food. He doesn’t drink milk and hardly ever eats scraps. I am concerned that he is underweight and this may be stifling his growth. He looks and I have told him like “a stray.†Is this a concern and should I change his food? He is fully inoculated, neutered and well maintained.
Hey Ronelle
You get thin people and you get fat people … you get underweight cats and you get overweight cats. Get it!
Nevertheless, you may try filling your shopping basket with different types of food which might appeal to his delicate palate! How about starting with fresh, healthy munchies like beef mince, slightly cooked liver, raw fish, chicken cooked or raw. There is life outside of processed pellets or tinned stuff you know - your cat, is after all a true carnivore, just like his big cousin, the leopard.
My guess is once he reaches middle age he’ll start spreading out a bit … just like people really!
Just as long as the boy is healthy I don’t think you have a problem.
Meow for now
