This little kitty cat licks herself obsessively. Her owner doesn’t know what is causing it, but Glynne recommends a fresh food diet.

 Question:

Hi Glynne

We have an SPCA cat aged just over a year. She licks herself quite obsessively. When she went to the vet for innoculations recently, he said that we could try hormone treatment but was not very positive, so we decided to leave it. On her stomach & near her anus, the areas are very pink and especially around her anus, almost raw. She does not seem distressed & otherwise is healthy. She does not have fleas. A friend suggested spraying her with a mild spray to prevent her licking. Do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks
Christine

Hi Christine
• No sprays please because she’ll lick it off and make her problem worse.
• Why not try going healthy before going drugs.
• What is so difficult about a 24/7, fresh, kitty smorgasbord with all her favourite, healthy treats?
• Cats are true carnivores which mean carbs are an unnatural food – go meat, fish, fowl, offal (liver etc.) animal fat, eggs and raw bones. Surely that’s what she would eat in the wild?
• Should she not eat any of the above food raw, which is my first choice for her, try cooking lightly to start, then slowly cooking less and less.
• I feel sure her licking condition may also clear up but don’t forget the fat … carnivores don’t get cholesterol problems!
There is no finer food than Mother Nature’s provisions.

Raw is always best
