Every pet owner battles with fleas during summer. Here is some advice on how to get rid of them.

Question:

Dear Petshrink
I have a dog which is scratching a lot. Despite flea treatments and Efasol from the vet, can you recommend anything else for the summer months?
I have heard that sunflower oil on the food helps.
thanks Fleur

Hi Fleur
I can’t think how sunflower oil can eradicate fleas unless you hit them over the head with the bottle?

Anyhow, here is some advice which may be helpful:
• It is imperative you spray your house with a proper residual pesticide in order to have a flea-free environment. Remember for every flea you see, there are 60 others playing hide and seek!
• Your vet sells flea products, both for your pets and home, and will advise you on their use.
• Nevertheless, always read the labels very carefully because if administered incorrectly, these insecticides which are highly toxic can be lethal for your pets.

Wishing you and your pets a scratch free summer.
