If your dog had two wishes, what do you think they would be? Well, the truth is, a full tummy…. and to be with you of course. For every animal on this planet, including humans, the number one survival requirement is food. And we just don’t get it. So, the purpose of this post is to tell you how your dog feels about food - why he loves it, why he can’t seem to get enough, and what to do about it. Continue Reading
This Q&A deals with two dogs, one of whom eats everything without chewing and swallows bones semi-whole. The owner wants to know what will happen if she puts them on the BARF diet.
Hi Glynne,
We have bunnies who are multiplying (yip, I asked the pet shop to sell me 2 male bunnies!). But the kids are loving it, so what the hell!
My question, though, is that my vet has told us to separate the male bunny from the mom and babies. Why is this? As he is so lonely and looks heartsore. When can i put him back with her?
Also, the babies are now exactly 2 weeks old. their eyes are open, their ears are up, they are fluffy and fat…. When can we touch them, without fear of Mom rejecting them? I am going mad looking at them without being able to hold them. Continue Reading
It’s that time of year again which our pets dread the most. Yes, it’s the ‘Silly Season’ which pre-curses the holidays and New Year, bringing unbelievable suffering to our faithful companions.
Homes are filled with festive energy and excitement is palpable, as days are planned for fun-filled adventures… and then, it’s time to go. Everyone piles into the car, and expectations run high - Sheeba is also caught up in the moment, and is just as excited at the prospect of going on holiday with her beloved family. But all too soon, her bubble is burst as she sadly watches her trusted family drive off without her. Continue Reading
Hi Glynne
I had two staffies aged 12 until recently. The neutered male drowned in our swimming pool during our absence, leaving behind his spayed female soul mate. We buried him in the garden whilst she was indoors. She has started sorrowfully howling and barks incessantly when left outdoors. We are walking her and giving her as much love and humanly attention as possible but are desperately in need of tips to assist her in what appears to be her “mourningâ€. Compassionate recommendations will be great! Continue Reading
Dear Glynne
I have a 13 yr old staffie cross border collie and a 6 yr old Staffie ( both female). The 6 yr old has been periodically viciously attacking the older ( and frail) dog - I am afraid she will either kill her, or turn on one of the children when we try to stop the fights. What can I do? I have been receiving many questions lately concerning the big debate of raw vs cooked bones for your dogs. The answer to the debate is this: raw bones are always better. Let me tell you why. Let’s go right back to the beginning and start with your dog’s ancestor, which was the wolf. You see, our great grandfathers selectively bred from greatest grandpa wolf to produce our domestic dogs. Yes, little Muffin and big, macho Butch are still wolves… but in sheep’s clothing and that’s a scientific fact, like it or not. (Doesn’t that just explain why Jack Russels are Rotweillers in drag?) Hi Glynne
I have a Shar-pei who drinks out of our fountain, we put toxic chemicals in the water to prevent algae from growing, if we don’t do this the water turns green very quickly. She has enough fresh water but still drinks out of the fountain, I have bought a spray containing mint, eucalyptus etc. that is supposed to put dogs off, but she loves it and licks it up. How can I get her to stop drinking from the fountain?
